Skyrim Oddities: Courtship by Janus3003 Skyrim Oddities: Courtship by Janus3003
Hello, everyone. Meet Julius.
Julius has been noticing some changes. His face is fuzzy. He can kill things by simply shouting. And he is taking notice of his lovely housecarl Lydia.
Julius has taken the first steps to becoming a married man! However, he did not realize that in Skyrim, the final steps to married life follow immediately after the first ones.

Seriously, what's up with that?
---
Screenshots from Skyrim, then put together in Photoshop. This is the first real comic I've ever done, so any advice on writing, images, making speech bubbles look nicer, etc., would be appreciated.

marriage in skyrim is very different. the guy in riften will explain. long term relationship in skyrim is not a common thing, you might go out for mead with your girlfriend one day, then find her killed by dragon the next. the amulet of mara make thing fast and simple, are you single ? looking for a partner ? interested in me ? cool lets get marry

I don't remember ever finding an Oblivion woman to be all that attractive, really. Closest were the ladies that seduce you and try to rob you blind.

I remember liking an Orc Knight girl, but I wasn't about to marry her. Just not into the green ladies (unless they're from Star Trek or Star Wars).

Personally I think the camera angles and everything about it seem just fine.  I'm a huge comic nut, so I hope I know a thing or two, maybe.  I found it quite funny, and it had good timing, especially since your male character isn't a Nord and not used to Nord customs.  Fact of how Skyrim works... not for the feint of heart and attachment.

however I do find it awesome that Lydia probably is arguably one of the best wives to have, especially post Hearthfire.  What happened to Aela is freaking hilarious!

I don't like it either. I lengthened the courtship in my story. Care to read it? I'd love you to see it.

and yeah... either you implement a decent, deep and emotional romance feature, or not at all...

NO EMOTION is displayed by fiancees...

nice work by the way!

Yeah, the "romance" was weak, but I'm still glad it's in there.
Thanks for the feedback!

My nord, Jurgen Fire-Heart, proposed to Lydia after the dawnguard quest line. We were practically standing on Harkon's burnt corpse/ashes when it happened. I would guess that Harkon was really ticked off in Molag Bal's realm of Oblivion.

Everybody says yes to the Dragonborn of course! He/She's the most eligible bachelor/bachelorette in the game.

Well... aside from Brynjolf of course.

Have to admit I too was one of the Pro-Marriage Serana fans. But it just came to pass. Still wished Bethesda gave us one unique marriage candidate apart from the generic-voiced ones.

Some of us have to rely on mods for that but it makes a difference if Beth made it themselves.

Hah. If only we can get married at the Shrine of Molag Bal. With Garan Marethi as our priest. It would be pretty weird with the image of the Daedric Lord sneering down on us lol.

While the marriage option is awesome, the way it actually goes is rather silly:

NPC X: I see you wear an amulet of Mara, [insert annoying hit-on-thee/pick-up line here]

Dragonborn: Are you interested?

NPC X: Yes I'm interested.

Dragoonborn: Interesting, let's get married.

[and they went to marry in Riften]

Makes me feel silly.

Hehe true that. marriage in Skyrim is very bizzare. But hey, you don't hear much about divorce rates so maybe they're doing just fine. Who knows.

No divorce, just people killing their spouses and then asking everyone on forums how to remarry. O_O

Wow, wedding traditions in Skyrim are like dating traditions among the majority of my teen age group.
"Hey, I like your face!"
"Okay."
"Wanna go out?"
"Sure!"
"Cool, let's have sex!"

And then I mutter something along the lines of, "People are freaking idiots." "Well, there goes my faith in humanity!" or, "Isn't the point of sex having a baby? And in high school that would be a bad move from a money, moral, and responsibility standpoint." or, "I would prefer getting to know someone before dating them, and at least making sure that we like each other and are serious before getting into her pants."

Or, my one threat: "i'm seriously thinking about pulling a Johnny Carson and disappearing off the face of the Earth. Go live on a remote island somewhere."
